Lodgepole Gallery & Tipi Village

What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow that runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.
— Issap√≥√≥mahksika or "Crow-big-foot", Blackfoot chief and peacemaker

Tuntuu ett√§ matkailun saralla puhutaan paljon el√§myksellisyydest√§, ainutlaatuisuudesta.

It feels like they talk a lot about making lasting memories and having unique experiences in the travel industry. But what can you offer someone who constantly travels, who has seen special things all around the world and have experienced exquisite moments, that only travel has been able to offer. As I wrote in my previous post, I don't think trips should first and foremost be an escape from reality, but instead experiences and places that make you grateful and put you at ease when you go back home to your daily grind. I love to travel, but every time I'm heading out I always get that anxious feeling about leaving again. Once on the way I always enjoy it fully and rarely feel bad about coming home again. Quite the opposite. I've gotten to see and experience special things, which I cannot be anything but grateful for. At home I can always go back to those experiences through pictures and especially through this blog. Here is a place I feel particularly grateful about every time my mind wanders off, it also made for an unforgettable experience unlike any other I've ever had.

Matka Pohjois-Dakotasta Montanaan oli pitk√§. Kahdeksan tuntia ajoa taittui p√§iv√§ss√§ kuitenkin suhteellisen kivuttomasti kun jaoimme ajovuorot nelj√§n kesken. Pari tuntia per lurkki. Matkalla pys√§htelimme muutaman kerran. Heti aamusta olin luvannut soittaa seuraavan y√∂n majapaikkaamme, eli t√§h√§n Lodgepole Gallery & Tipi Villageen ilmoittakseni olisimmeko illalliseen menness√§ perill√§. Ja olimmehan me.

The trip from North Dakota to Montana was long. Eight hours of driving wasn't too bad though, since we split it into shifts between the four of us. So a couple hours each. On the way we stopped a few times. In the morning I had promised to give our next lodging at this Lodgepole Gallery & Tipi Village a call to tell them if we would make it in time for dinner. And indeed we did. Dinner was a tasty home cooked meal consisting of buffalo meatballs, salad and freshly baked bread. During dinner we chatted with a lovely couple from North Carolina, who were also spending the night in one of these ah-mazing teepees.

You can also rent a mattress and other essential items if you didn't bring any with you. We however had a full set up since we were camping and only had to make sure not to catch any sparks from the fire. The nearby forest fires dimmed our skies during our entire time in Western Montana, but on the other hand these smoky skies were quite fitting for this magical world found on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation.

Saimme kunnian yöpyä aamutähtitiipiissä, jonne neljä henkilöä mahtuikin erittäin mukavasti. Mukana meillä oli vaahtokarkkeja, popcornia ja siideriä. Uudet tuttumme illalliselta antoivat meille lisäksi loput s'more-tarvikkeensa.

We had the honor to spend the night in the Morning Star Tipi, which easily fitted four people. We had brought marshmallows, popcorn and hard cider. Our new friends from dinner also gave us their leftover s'more ingredients.

If the sunset wasn't that special at night due to all the smoke, the sunrise was spectacular. An incredible blood-orange-like sun appeared from behind the clouds and made the teepees proud.
